The Southeastern Trust for Parks and Land, Inc. (SE Trust) acquired the land and built the trails for this nature preserve & park project on 17 acres of conserved land near I-85N and Cannongate Road in Coweta County, GA. The site will positively impact local community development, public health, the environment, and quality of life. The land is owned with no debt by STPAL. It is perpetually conserved via deed restriction to be a natural land passive recreation public park.
The preserve and park will be supported by the Friends of CNP (Cannongate Nature Preserve). This group is in the early phase of development. It will be a volunteer community group with a leadership structure, bylaws, mission statement, and regular activities. The group’s activities will include volunteer site maintenance and improvement; organizing low impact special events such as nature walks at the site; fundraising for the group’s activities and projects; and input on the site’s initial and ongoing usage and development.
As of August 2021, the park has a simple parking area and +/- 2 miles of natural surface multi-use hiking & biking trails for public use! It still needs picnic tables, benches, invasive plant control, nature based interpretive signage, native plants, and wildlife supportive items.
