Pumpkinvine Nature Park is a permanently conserved Nature Park owned by the Southeastern Trust for Parks and Land (SE Trust) in Paulding County off HWY 278 which will provide free and open public access for passive outdoor recreation in perpetuity. The tract is a triangular parcel of 110 acre with frontage on Pumpkinvine Creek on two sides and a high crowned ridgeline in the middle. The physical geography of the park has five unique areas: swamp, wetland, high grassy field, mixed hardwood forest, and emergent pine forest. The park has ideal terrain for recreational trail development.
The Pumpkinvine Trail project is a combined effort between SE Trust, MTB Atlanta, and professional trail builder Ken Nix.In July 2021, Ken Nix flagged a conceptual trail design in the field and Brett Davidson of MTB Atlanta Pro Trails produced this concept plan. Ken built the trail system at SE Trust's Talking Rock Nature Park.
The new bike optimized shared use trail system is now under construction by Ken Nix and associates. The trail system will have a Beginner Loop of about 1.25 mikes and then approximately 4.5 mile Intermediate Cross Country Loop throughout the rest of the property. The new trail system will be constructed as a Class 3 trail designed for shared use- mountain biking, hiking and trail running. This project will be a “hybrid build” with volunteer days hosted by MTB Atlanta and SE Trust to engage volunteers in Paulding County with the project and to promote stewardship of the new trails at the park as well as mitigate cost. The Georgia Cycling League Paulding Composite Middle and High School Mountain Bike will be involved with the volunteer build days and will practice at the system once completed. MTB Atlanta will be responsible for the long-term maintenance of the trail system per the memorandum of understanding in place between MTB Atlanta and SE Trust. A gravel parking lot and trailhead with pavilions will be constructed at the main park entrance just off of Settlement Road. A porta potty will also be rented for the site.
